ULTI, THE OWL, FLIES THROUGH THE FOREST

Summer is here and it's very hot. Nothing is moving in the forest, the birds are silent and sitting still in the shade of the enormous trees. From among the thick branches of a fir tree a little creature emerges, with two big round eyes and soft fluffy plumage. It's ULTI, the nosey little owl.

He hops from branch to branch. Here in the woods, there are so many amazing things to see! On the ground there are mushrooms of all sizes, ferns, plants and young trees; you can smell the scent of ripe berries, hear buzzing bees in the undergrowth, and occasionally see Simi, the butterfly, fluttering past. And here comes Maxi, the hedgehog, wriggling out of his hole and wearing his prickly coat. He greets ULTI and tells him he has yet to think of a fun plan for the afternoon, and then he continues into the forest with ULTI and Simi. After a while, Burgi, the mother bird, also arrives. She chats with her friends and wonders where the other three are planning to go. She too joins their cheerful little group. ULTI carries on ahead, peeping around and constantly discovering something new. Edi, the red squirrel, is burying a pine cone. "What are you doing?" asks ULTI. "I’m storing food for the long winter. If you work hard, you don't starve," he replies, and he also joins the little troop. Toni, the sly fox, peers out from among the dense undergrowth. He envies the little group travelling together, and looks on thoughtfully. What are they all doing here in the forest? So he asks ULTI, the leader of the group, if he knows the way back. Now ULTI and his friends realise that they are no longer able to find their way out of the woods. So what can they do?

ULTI IS VERY INTELLIGENT; HE THINKS FOR A BIT
AND THEN HE COMES UP WITH A BRILLIANT IDEA.

Together with all his faithful companions, Simi, Maxi, Burgi, Edi and Toni, he will hold a big party in the woods and invite all the creatures of the forest. They will play and dance, and sing and make music, and all the most delicious treats will be served.
A thousand fireflies will provide the lights. ULTI knows that the parents of Simi, Maxi, Burgi, Edi and Toni will all come to the party, and so everyone will find their way back through the woods. So they all became good friends, but they never again ventured so far alone into the forest.
